Muscogee Creek Indian Freedmen Scholarship Application

For Immediate release

The Muscogee Creek Indian Freedmen Band (MCIFB) of Oklahoma issued a press release announcing that their 2012 Freedmen Scholarship applications are now avail through February 1, 2012.

Eligible applicants must be a graduating high school senior in 2011 or a returning college student; provide proof of acceptance to an accredited institution of higher learning with the intent of completing a two or four year degree. The applicant must be a descendant of Freedmen Indian and must demonstrate a positive impact or involvement in the community.

To promote self-sufficiency in the preservation of our unparalleled cultural heritage through the implementation of educational programs that depict the accurate history of the African-Creek Indian Freedmen; to embrace the unique cultural heritage of the African-Creek Indian Freedmen ancestral lineage through educational research; to support the reconnection of families by assisting members in genealogical research, tracing members to the Creek tribal rolls; and to educate members and the public of the African Creeks' political rights as citizens of the Creek Nation, defined by the Creek Treaty of 1866(Article 2).
